Sips of the Week
We talked to Christine Molinnes, Export Manager for the Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins du Languedoc, about the wines of the Languedoc. She gave us a good overview of the major regions, grape varieties and why it’s a great place to look for value wines. Red regions to look for include Minervois, Faugeres, Corbieres, Saint-Chinian and Gres de Montpellier. Picpoul de Pinet is one region that focuses on whites as is Limoux which makes some great Chardonnay and bubbly.
Christophe Gualco of Chateau d’Etang des Colombes talked to us about the wines of the Corbieres region and why they have a special quality driven by the terroir of the region. Terrior is a concept that means the place where the grapes are grown have a huge effect on the final taste of the wine. He also shared some wine pairing tips for us which include firing up your grills and uncorking a Corbieres!Constance Rerolle of Chateau de l’Engarran talked to us about the wines from the region of Gres de Montpellier and what it’s like to be a women wine maker in France. She also gives us some tips on making a lamb dish with Herbs de Provence that pairs perfectly with the red wines of this region.
7/29 2-6PM Taste for Life Benefiting the American Cancer Society http://www.tasteforlife.org The 13th Annual Taste for Life event will showcase renowned chefs and exceptional wines to benefit the American Cancer Society in its goal to spread awareness and create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. Funds raised will be used for research, patient programs, advocacy and education. The event on July 29, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. will feature specially designed local dishes showcasing recipes prepared by some of the region’s leading chefs from the area’s top restaurants. Guests will also have the opportunity to enjoy specialty vendors, musical entertainment, and live/silent auctions. $90/ticket
