Sebastien Marquet, winemaker at Doukènie Winery joined us with his new releases for a fun and informative tasting. We learned all about how he began his training as a winemaker at the wee age of 13 and now uses that wealth of knowledge to craft world class wines in Virginia.

2011 Sauvignon Blanc, Loudoun County, Virginia The very cold and slow stainless steel fermentation developed in Doukénie Sauvignon Blanc is a beautiful quantity of grapefruit, citrus and herbaceous flavors of chamomile and clover. $24 for Non-Members, $20 Members 2009 “Le Vin Rouge” Loudoun County, Virginia  This very elegant and delicate red wine is produced with 100% grapes from Virginia. The expressive aromas of red berries, and black currant offer a beautiful dimension for your palate followed by light port, plum, and oak flavors. The body is structured and very well-balanced. The tannins are smooth, offering a round finish that tempts you to take another sip. $24 for Non-Members, $20 Members 2009 “Dionysus” Red (100% Merlot), Loudoun County, Virginia  Dionysus was the god of the Grape Harvest, wine making and wine in Greek Mythology. The dark red purple color is produced with 100% Merlot from block number 1 of Doukénie Winery Estate. With a very earthy and rich bouquet it divulges a complexity of aromas: tobacco, caramel, coffee, coconut, cherry, berries and black currant. This is an extremely balanced full-bodied wine, that gives a very velvety sensation. Chef Jerry Edwards, President and Corporate Chef of Chef’s Expressions, joined us to talk about how he creates perfect pairings and his role in the upcoming Taste for Life fundraiser on 7/29 to benefit the American Cancer Society. Jerry’s career spans 30 years as a business owner and Chef. During that time his company has won two separate National Catering Company of the Year Awards. He has personally won over 50 industry awards and he holds an honorary doctorate in hospitality, but is most proud of his NACE Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award.

7/29 2-6PM Taste for Life Benefiting the American Cancer Society http://www.tasteforlife.org The 13th Annual Taste for Life event will showcase renowned chefs and exceptional wines to benefit the American Cancer Society in its goal to spread awareness and create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. Funds raised will be used for research, patient programs, advocacy and education. The event on July 29, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. will feature specially designed local dishes showcasing recipes prepared by some of the region’s leading chefs from the area’s top restaurants. Guests will also have the opportunity to enjoy specialty vendors, musical entertainment, and live/silent auctions. $90/ticket
